Hola!

Hi. I’m Bree Bailey. I’m a poet and wrote a poetry book!

My debut poetry collection, Wailing on Whisper Street, just debuted after winning the 2023 Jack McCarthy Book Prize with Write Bloody Publishing.

I have a huge passion for live music that exploded with my first rock concert as a tween. That concert sparked my love for songwriting and communal story-telling, which eventually led me to poetry and the mission to publish.

Before diving into poetry at large, I used to be a high school educator, creating and facilitating poetry lessons that got teenagers really thinking. Those interactions boosted my confidence and fueled my passion to make poetry accessible to everyone. During the pandemic, I dove into writing workshops, using my Masters in Education and love for music to deepen my craft. Now, I’m bringing that contagious energy and experience to the world of poetry, aiming to connect with readers in a meaningful way. on stage and on page.

My poetry is deeply personal, reflecting my own life experiences and stories I’ve witnessed secondhand. I write with integrity always, and respect for the truth.

I openly and tenderly share my struggles with bisexuality, coming of age, poverty, and depression, and I hope my writing can offer some comfort and understanding to others dealing with similar issues or perhaps a gentle accesible lens for folks who are unfamiliar.

I love creating a space where readers can find connection and solace.

I'm currently living in Texas, spend my daytime crushing numbers in finance, and also split my time between here and New York City. Music and writing are staples in my life, and I absolutely love exploring new places.

I'm a single mom, and spending time with my daughter and shaping her future is my biggest joy. She started me on this journey without even knowing it, and I do it all for her (and my dog).

Although I thrive on being out and about, I also deal with complex PTSD, anxiety, OCD, and a few other not-so-obvious mental and chronic autoimmune illnesses. Opening up about this has not been easy, but here we are.

Struggling with mental health, finding joy, and everything in between—that's the real deal we need to lean in to as we become a better world. I want to be vulnerable with you, sharing both my flaws and my strengths. I don't want to hide anymore. I want to share my truth in a way that feels right to me and hopefully resonates with you.

But even if it doesn't, let's still try to be friends. I'll keep you safe. Pinky promise. :)

So, what else do you want to know about me?

Well, when I'm not writing, you'll probably find me enjoying some tacos at the nearest food truck, laughing at a comedy show in the East Village, or catching a live music show wherever I get stranded. These simple pleasures keep me grounded and inspired.

Thanks for stopping by to learn a bit about me and my journey!
